Hi Reader,

As the new moon begins to grow, a few days after Chinese Lunar New year welcoming the year of the dragon, I am bringing to you a bit of a pivot, but for those that have known me for decades, it might not be that surprising. What I’m offering is a way for folks to become authentic to who they are as they step into leadership which is of service to themselves and their groups and teams.

I am calling it Leadership under the Moon, with these foundational pillars:

• Astrology: because it helps us understand better who we are and our gifts, because it helps us effectively grapple with diversity by examining elemental differences (fire, earth, air, water), and because it is a benevolent and complex system of cosmology.
• Group process in a model based in our human biology as developed by Alexandra Merrill, that gives a clear process for the development of a sustainable human communities.
• Cycles: experiential learning cycle, moon cycles, seed cycles, cycle of betrayal, lunar phase cycles, yearly cycles, astrological cycles, ecological cycles…
• Ecological wisdom,because as humans we are one of the youngest species on the planet and have much to learn from our elders and ancestors: the system of ecology reveals ongoing insight and information about how to create sustainable human communities and gives guidance to the questions we ought to consider.

In some ways this work begins with my horse, Charley, who taught me how to truly ride, and the difference between power-with and power-over, and helped me to trust my own inner knowing. It includes decades of developing wilderness skills, living in intensive community with students and faculty for months at a time and getting direct perspectives from folks on different sides of issues. And it includes designing and implementing a walking semester program in Nepal, and living and teaching in South and Southeast Asia for the better part of a decade.

I have had the great privilege of working with Alexandra Merrill for more than 20 years, individually and in groups (one lasting for 16 years on a monthly basis). She helped me unravel complex tangles of human interactions while I learned to see and take responsibility in these matters. And each of us has multiple layers within ourselves, intersecting, as do our groups, and our relational fields.

So my aim is to use astrology to help us better understand ourselves and others, and to collaboratively create a safe-enough space to practice making leaderful choices as we engage with one another in an online community format. Each month we will have a teaching component, live questions and answers, and a longer group practice session with a focused reflection period.

This nine month program begins on October 3rd, 2024 and is limited to 12 participants.

I hope that you will join me on this new adventure as it unfolds, even if you are not involved in the group itself. I am super excited to be sharing these learnings and teachings in a way that is new to me.

As I get ready to launch, I will be sending out newsletters with relevant stories: about astrology, more about my horse, Charley, and questions and thoughts as I grapple with my own leadership and foibles. There may be audios and videos occasionally embedded in the newsletter, and maybe even links to some of my favorite mentors and teachers.
